I'm Not Sure,...... And,.. I'm Not going to spend the Hours needed to research the Parts Books,......

But,...... I Think this is the point where you go from "Standard Production Marine Engines" to High Performance Engines,....
Where there are No Doubt some Stronger Parts are used in the Build-up......
Maybe stronger Pistons,... or Hotter Cam,... Or Possibly a Forged Crank,.......

BTW,..... This is All, Purely Speculation on My part.........

Re: "94 MCM 5.7lx vs 350 Magnum

Last year, I looked at the online parts look-up sites, Merc Service manuals, and Dennis Moore's SBC Perf book, researching the differences between the 5.7L and 350 carbed mag.

Whie I wasn't looking at the LX specificly, from what I remember the intake manifold is the major difference. Carb jetting/rods might be slightly different, and the advance curve might be different too. I don,t remember the year Merc switched from Q-jet to Weber, but if weber in '94, the LX would of had a squarebore to qjet conversion plate. If the LX has 97XX weber carb, it is a 750cfm, like the 350 mag. The 96XX is the 600/625cfm weber.

As far as I know, there is no gurrantee if you have roller or flat hydraulic lifters, without looking. There was only one flat lifter cam and one roller lifter cam, during the late 80's/early 90's. Both were used in the 350 mag, in the late 80's/early 90's.

Accordingto DM's book and what I was able to check in part numbers, there wasn't any differences on the pistons, rods, crank, etc. No 4-bolt mains in the mags, either.
