I have a 94 Crowline with 5.0 or may be 5.7 mercruiser. My Y pipe has a leak, a small hole that I fixed with JB Weld but it came back on. I have read every where that to replace the Y-Pipe the engine must come out, I have never done this, is there a step by step thread that some one posted on the replacement?
Second thought, I have about 6-10 inch space on either sides of engine and in the front about 10-12 inch space, is it possible to change this part without lifting the engine, I can accees the bolts. Please let me know with best possible solution, I have already missed alot of summer while preping this boat that has been sitting for almost a decade.
The part number I got for Y-Pipe is 807130a4 and on ebay I may get for a decent price, I need to make sure I am getting the right part, few folks suggested to have it welded, any thoughts?

Many Thanks.

That is the correct part#. If you can access the bolts then after you remove the drive, Unbolt, lift and slide the engine forward and replace it. I wouldn't weld and use the one with the hole, it's just going to go through in another spot and you'll be doing it again. Do it right the first time.

Re: 94 Mercruiser 5.0 Y Pipe Please HELP

Thank you guys for quick replies, I will be posting results in few weeks, the only reason I am hesitant of taking the motor out is the height of boat and most people have this issue, there was a great suggestion in one of the threads to pull the engine bit forward towards gas tank and lift the other side of motor to reach the bolts; there is great info on this site and people like you make tasks easier for DIY ers like us.

Thank you

Re: 94 Mercruiser 5.0 Y Pipe Please HELP-UPDATE

OK guys, it was much easier to take the motor out and install the Y-pipe, I used a fork lifter from a friend and used an electric hoist to pull engine, I unscrewd the bolts from stringers to pull the engine out, when I put it back, the alignment was perfect, I checked with the alignment tool. Slapped the outdrive back and wow I was in business.
Thank you guys for all your help.
