Fellow Members,

New to boating, I have a 94 Mecury Sport Jet 90 in the Bayliner Reflexx jet boat. The boat's in great condition (very little use), which may be percisely my problem. The motor appears to be cranking but rarely turns over.

I have recently purcased a new stater, new plugs, and new wires. My problem is with cold starts or getting the boat started in general. The boat has been sitting in the garage for about 2 years. The boat historically has always had problems starting but when started, runs great!

Does anyone think it could be one or all of the following?

1. My fuel is bad (since I never winterized it)
2. I am not utilizing the choke correctly
3. My carbs are all gunked up
4. My fule is not being pumped adequately to the engine.

I have read up on this motor and have found the above to be common with this engine. Then again, this could be the case with any motor s  uppose...

Any thoughts?

Does it crank at the correct speed, or is it sluggish? I had this same problem, turned out it was a bad starter motor, and bad battery cables. The boat also would not start as the gas was a season old. Drain your gas, clean your carbs, make sure the fuel pump is firm before attempting to start.
