94 OMC Cobra 5.7 Outdrive Jerk.

My 94' OMC Cobra outdrive has a very intermintant jerk. Happens a couple times and hour. As I pull a skier up, it feels like the rope gets slack and gets tight again. It is not the rope since I can see it, but that is a way to explain the feelilng. The Engine dose not seems to cut out. Feels like possible Prop rubber hub slipping. Anyone had a concern like this. Thank You

It sounds like the clutch dog and forward gear are jumping out of engagement due to wear and/or improper linkage and cable adjustment.<br /><br />If so, the only true fix is to replace those items and thoroughly check out the linkage, along with the boat operator's shifting technique.

Thanks for the reply. I understand that cable adjustment can cause hard shifting and The clutch dogs can cause a miss engegment. This is a problem that happens after engagment and when heavy throttle applied.Only Jerks 1 time like a missfire but engine is not. Thanks for the replys

I would also suspect the clutch dog and gear. I replaced mine a few years ago due to the same thing you are describing. It would only do it coming out of the hole, and only occasionaly. However, it will get worse.

Are you sure the drive is actually a 1994, since that year they changed to the cone clutch Volvo design (joint venture). The original Cobras 86-93 were dog clutch designs. <br />Sometimes a 1994 boat will have a 1993 drivetrain in it.

Check to see if the two hex-head pivot pins on the pivot housing are tight
