Can anyone with this type of boat tell me what kind of top speed you get with this boat and engine combination? What diameter and pitch prop are you using? What is recommended rpm's at WOT? Any other propeller recommendations for this boat and engine combination? Thanks in advance. I appreciate all the advice and recommendations that you experienced boaters have given. :)

I have a 1987 Islander 221, with the 4.3 OMC.

Probably the exact same boat you have, unless the horsepower was tweaked up a bit since 1987.

Using two GPS (with identical results), I can hit 40 mph with the 19" pitch prop and 38 mph with the 17" prop.

Hope this helps.

bond-o
Which big pond are you heading for? I'm headed to Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin on Monday, 8/5/02. Hopefully the boat traffic will be a little light after the K/D Derby ends today at 5:00 pm. Did great there 2 weekends ago and the weekend before that we did great also.

Traded my '88 Islander 22' with 3.0L 140 hp for a '95 Islander 22' with a V-6LX. Previous owner was running 45 to 48 mph with a 19 pitch Merc prop. I'll finish rigging the boat today with 4 downriggers and electronics for salmon fishing trip tomorrow. I don't expect to get the topend speed that previous owner got since I carry more gear than he did.

I'll keep track of top speed results from four sources: 1. boats speedometer 2. Lowrance GPS 3. Furuno FCV-600L locator and finally the Hummingbird Wide 100 that was left on the boat by previous owner. I'll post top speed results Thursday nite or Friday a.m. when I return. :) :)

Buck n di,
i guess i use your water after your done with it.... i'm Waaaaay Down stream from you.... Northeastern lake Ontario,+ the 1000 Islands, St Lawrence River.....

yesterday, i got the carb. tuned in pretty good... Finally cleaned up a bit of a lean stumble in the mid-range rpms... got the right needles,+ jets.. just have to play with the springs a little now....

i also turned the pitch screws out a turn or two on the Torque-Shift....in 4"/6" chop i was able to pull an honest 44.9 mphgps(i guess i'll just call that 45 mph), at 4800rpm,+ a bit of trim... when i set the trim, turned on the autopilot, then walked to the left,+ back a bit,, the gps flickered at 46mph....I'M VEERY HAPPY... that's not to bad for full dress,+ 36 gallons of fuel....

i'll pull the prop to balance the pitch on all three blades this week sometime... then i'll know where their set( in inches)....

it's amazing what another 100hp does for a boat.....

well i gotta go...... there's a salmon acallin' my name.......

Bondo
