I am working on a 95 open bow rinker 180 18 ft, with a 3.0 mercruiser, it starts very easy and idles great, as soon as i give it a little gas it stumbles and stalls. If i back off the gas as soon as it starts to stumble and then floor it, it will take off but it will only go to about 12 mph at wide open throtal for about 5 min. then it will SLOWLY start accelerating up to about 40 mph. It does this all very smoothly, it does not miss, backfire, or chug at all. I checked the fuel filter in the carb. and it was clean. i replaced the dist. cap and rotor button (they looked alittle rough), but it didnt change anything. It has brand new spark plugs in it. Anyone have any ideas??? (i have added SeaFoam fuel treatment and dry gas)

Not sure if this is a related problem or not but after running it for around 45 min. when i shut it off and try to restart it, it will not turn over (acts like battery is dead) after is sits for about 20 min. it cranks right up. Battery, Starter, and Alternator look like they are brand new. The first time i took the boat out and it did this i reached down to check that the wing nut was tight on the neg. battery term. and it was so hot it burnt a blister on my finger. i have driven it several times since and i keep checking the battery term. and it is not get hot at all (not even warm) but it still acts like batt. is dead after driving about 45 min. but then it cranks like brand new after letting it sit 20 min.

Don't know about your cranking issue, but your accelerator pump is shot in the carb. or plugged up.

You need a carb overhaul.

Sound strange:)

The hot battery terminal, could be caused by a loose connection.

Acts like dead? Dead dead ore clicking in solenoids?

Check voltage on battery, with engine running and stopped.

Wholly SMOKES.............

Never seen the boat but his confidence is overwhelming!

The 3.0 engines never came with Fuel filter / water separators which I and other suggest is a mandatory item.

I recommend as a start to pull the filter at the carb and to check for contamination. Remove tube fitting at carb and back of fitting.

(Clicking in solenoids), Battery voltage is 12.5 when engine is off and 14.6 to 14.8 when running
