Just picked up a low hour motor that's been sitting for a few years and wanted advice on what to look for and do. Replace t-stat?, impeller?, lower end oil, plugs, what about a Racor in-line gas filter? Will fuel lines need changing? It's in great shape, the basic issue is just that it's been sitting for 4 to 5 years.

Thanks for any help

Yes, and thanks for the help. I just read through the post on awakening a motor. Excellent. I do still have an issue locating a reprint of the original OMC manual that doesn't cost so much. Is there one specific to this motor (J30ELEOB) that's less dough?

Searayman looks great. I'm seeing if I can get the manual right now. You guys are really helpful. Definitely shortening the learning curve.

BTW.. Are most guys buying parts on line, is it generally a lot cheaper?

we try to buy as much as we can thru the iboats marine store. they pay for this free forum. there prices are competitive, shipping usually less, and usually you have it in 3 days.

Yes I see, guilty of being a bit slow. BTW, I changed the lower end oil, looked new, no filings etc. Changed impeller, housing and plate were hardly warn. Put new plugs in and cleared the pisser hose. You guys are really helpful.
Thank you.

Once I realized the little plastic keeper bushing on the upper shift linkage has a split so you can get it off easy, dropping the lower unit was a breeze.

Thanks again, this is fun!
