i may have several problems here relative to cooling.

the clearance between the cone-shaped top of the water pump on the lower unit seems excessive...it doesnt exactly 'snug' up to the delivery-pipe on the middle unit. Tons of water can escape and yet, the evinrude diagram doesnt show that i'm missing anything.

I had thought the water pump housing tapered cone would slip INTO and snug up inside the mid-section pipe, but it just goes OVER it.

What am i missing here.

on the pump end there is a grommet between the pump base, and the extention to the water tube, the tube should somewhat seal against the grommet. see # 69 in this diagram http://www.crowleymarine.com/brp_parts/diagrams/26812.cfm you will have to drag picture to the right to see it.
