Iam thinking of purchasing a Key West 19' with a 112 Johnson 1995 or 1996. I cannot find any information on the motor in regards to preformance, defects, or any articles regarding the engine. Can anyone help?

If you can get the model number, post it here and myself or one of several other folks, can identify the year for you. That motor is a slightly detuned 115 cross-flow. The design has been around for at least 3 decades and is pretty bullet proof. It probably has an "SPL" designation to it and that would indicate it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of its big bother (the 115). Offered as the "economy-line" motor, SPL's may not have power trim, oil injection etc.

As with any used motor purchase, check it out thoroughly (or have a QUALIFIED dealer check it for you) and set up the time to do an on-the-water test ride.

-John
