I have had many guage problems, the most recent is causing me to deal with them. Boat is 15 yrs old.
For a long time, the oil guage bounces at idle and low speed.
I thought some of these failues could be from the alternator putting out high voltage, but all else works fine and have not cked it. (how do I do this?)
About 4 yrs ago noticed amp meter pegs all the way to the right, 16+. does not go to 0 when off.
Not sure that rpm's are correct or not.
Last week, gas guage only went to 5/8 after filling up. Thought it was the sending unit, but when shorting the 2 wires, guage only went to 3/4.
So, may need some guage work.
Suggestions for repairs? How can I tell if this is a VDO panel?
I saw a few threads that spoke about replaceing with convential guages... is this possible and how to do this?
Any clues about how to remove the instrument panel? i lookked in back and the opening in the back of the dash is not large enough for it to drop out. So i am thinking it comes out from the front. There is a black plastic trim ring with a small opening at top center, but no sign of clips, screws or fittings, and it did not release with fairly moderate pressure.
thanks john
