Ok, new problem. Got her to start...YAY!!! We made it out about 200 yards when she wound down and stopped. I tried to pull the rope, and she wouldn't budge. So, I, being the man, (who by the way was very glad I put the oars in) rowed my entire family the 200 yards back to the launch. I managed to get her on the trailer, and another fisherman came up with a force motor on his boat. I told him what happened, and he came over and pulled the rope, she pulled just fine (he pulled easy so as not to start the motor). What do I need to change, replace, fix, shoot, to keep this from happening again? I posted a couple of days ago about how it was hard to start. This guy at the launch told me that the previous owner must have burned the motor doing something to the seals making it loose compression, thus hard to start. Is this something I can take care of myself, or should I leave it to a professional? I'm kinda handy, but don't want to get in over my head.

By the way: 1995 Force 15hp tiller, short shaft. Replaced the impellar, spark plugs, and gear oil last weekend. motor was pushing water when we had it in the tank, can't say for the lake.

Do a compression check.
Rebuild the carb.
Did you have the gear selector in the right position when you tried to start it after it died?
It may have over heated and locked up and cooled down by the time you rowed to the ramp. Start it and verify its pumping water.

Are you sure that your gas and oil mixture is correct? Slowly winding down to a stop and then not turning is indicative of overtemp.

I talked to a guy tonight that works at a local marina. He told me Force made 2 kinds of motors: 1 that worked, 1 that didn't. He also told me that the name Force was a good one because "they force you to buy another motor." Should I listen to the guy? I mean, it cooled down and now it works. I just want to know what I need to do to keep this from happening again.

The oil is a 50:1 mix. Got the oil from the local marina and was incredibly meticulous when I mixed it.

Force motors are decent and will run along time if cared for properly.

With what little info your giving it sounds like your motor overheated.
Before you go back out you need to make sure the motor is not overheating.

Do a search about overheating, impellers, and whatever else comes to mind. The answers are already here you just need to look them up.
I always dig up old posts to figure out problems since its alot faster.

Took her to the mechanic tonight (I'd fix it but I really new to this) He did a compression check and both read 75 psi. Is this ok for a 15 horse? He told me it seemed a little low, but that since they read the same, it should be salvagable. Trying to figure out the next step.

When is the last time the water pump was changed? If you don't know, change it as they are not that expensive.
