Needs much choking to start, 12 pushes on the key, but not lean when running. A little rough at lower speeds. It sonnds like it has a slight miss at high speeds. Compression is pretty good, recent de-carb, low hours overall. One mechanic says he would rebuild the carbs for around $400.00, and that I will see a significant improvement. Another says it's just getting tired, the magnets get weaker making it hard to start, etc. Any ideas? Thanks

You'll get help from others here with much more experience than me, but have you checked to make sure you have good, strong spark on all six cylinders? It is easy to do, and you can get a basic spark tester for less than $10 at an auto parts store. Not sure about your particular engine, but it seems like a 7/16" gap on the spark tester is what they say for most. Your carbs may need re-building, but this didn't do a lot for my particular engine a few years ago when I had it done. I too paid almost $400 for a re-build, but I'll definitely be doing it myself next time and saving hundreds!!

when was the last time you had a full link and sink tuneup?

When was the last time you changed the fuel line and bulb?

Does the bulb get hard and stay hard before you start or does it leak down a little?

Have you checked the output psi of the fuel pump?

Carb floats on that motor like to stick with age. Clean the needle flow valve on the float and check the float adjustment. very easy to do yourself. you don't even need to replace the o-ring when you take the bowl off.

Thanks guys, now I have no tach signal above 1000 RPM and batteries not charging. A local mechanic says it's the rectifier, any suggestions?
