'95 Johnson idle speed?

Sorry for asking such a simple question, but I couldn't seem to find a direct answer anywhere and I don't have any manuals for it. But, what RPM should a 1995 70HP Johnson idle at?

I just hooked up the tach, set it to 12 pole, and it reads 1500 RPM at idle. The engine always seemed to idle fast, but then again, I have never operated any other Johnson/Evinrude outboards.

My manual says my 55 should idle at 750 in reverse. I would bring yours down to about 8 or 900 anyway.

Re: '95 Johnson idle speed?

So it's either idling twice as fast as it should or something is wrong with the tach. I have a feeling it is idling too fast because we had a mechanic tune it a few years ago and he spent quite a lot of time on it. Maybe he increased the idle speed on purpose for some reason? I took a short video, maybe the sound can provide can provide some indication. Sorry for the sound clipping, I should have covered the mic on my camera with my finger, but I didn't want to annoy my neighbors with the noise again with a re-shoot.

I'll check the idle speed once its in gear in water, hopefully today. My boating schedule is at the whim of the tides.
