Noticed that the bellows wasn't connected to the pivot housing.

Pulled the drive and tried to pull the bellows into the pivot housing, it was too small OD, pulled it off and found that some ID10T put a cobra bellows on it.

So i'm replacing with a new KC bellows, with new o rings, and seals, where the last "mechanic" who installed the wrong bellows, also used red RTV instead of new seals.

Question is there is no gasket around the drive to the pivot housing like there is on a SX or Cobra. What keeps water from coming inbetween the pivot housing and the drive and getting into the u-joint bellows area. Should i put some great stuff or just leave it the way the manual says?

The nose of the outdrive seals up against the bellows and prevents water from getting into the bellows. Only the Cobra has a gasket, but the gasket is not to keep water out of the bellows. The SX does not have a gasket either.

Your right, it was the dog cobra that had a gasket.

Ok another question, the OMC sealant that you put around the pivot housing bellows seal, is that the same as permetex brown gasket sealant or indian head style sealer? or is it like a permetex red or blue form a gasket?

Thanks

Small update, this engine and drive are TIGHT we were out on Canyon lake for two days and the boat performed flawlessly! With the 17p aluminum prop we got 45 mph gps with 4 adults and 4 kids! I dinged the prop on the rocks while loading. Now we have a 19p SS Balistic prop that we haven't tested yet...

That 17p JUMP on plane! Cant wait to fix this issue and se how she performs now!
