Does the impeller in the King Cobra Cone Clutch drive cool the drive?

If I switch over to a raw water pump system with a thru-hull intake, will I risk burnning up my drive without the water flowing through it?

I would help if I could, but I'm looking for the same sort of info. Besides, I'm a Cornhusker Fan and you might not take my advice if I had any....:D

If you remove the impeller, how do you keep water from flooding into the boat?

Do you leave the hose connection to the drive and just plug it?

Which is better, a crank mounted pump or belt driven?

Why would removing the impeller let water into the boat?
If you remove the impeller, and use a pump on the engine, just remove the hose from the transom shield fitting, and cap it. That hose will then be hooked to the through hull fitting.
