Finalizing sale of an 02' 270 SC with 5.7 Gi. Will be coming over from the Club Sea Ray side (great forum). From what I have read here already, there seems to be some good info here too :D

Are there any 270 owners out here? The only question I have is with the arch. Where the arch is attached to the gunwale, the arch is cracked and seems to have had moisture in the arch. Looks like moisture may become trapped in the arch and as the temp drops below freezing, the frozen water is expanding and cracking the arch at the lowest point (gunwale attachment point), does this make any sense and is this a common problem for the Doral arches?

Thanks!
Fred

Congratulations Let's hope the arch thing is not a deal killer. I too had a sea ray and loved it. I love my Doral more. It may help that the Doral has more room. As far as the arch you can see there has been some discussion on it but as far as moisture, freezing temps and the arch I never saw that question before. I don't have an opinion or first hand knowledge since my year Doral has a fixed arch. I am sure we have some northern Doral owners who may come along shortly. You may want to contact Top rack marina. I assume it freezes in Chesapeake (or somewhere close to ) Va so they may have some idea of what you are dealing with.

Thanks for the info Jlee. Survey is tomorrow morning although I can't be there (work), I'm hoping all goes well. Beautiful boat and yes, seems to be very roomy. It's also nice knowing I'll be the only Doral on the lake I'm splashing her into...pretty cool and a possible head turner. Never had the Volvo/Penta combo as well and have heard nothing but positive things about the Vp. My SR had a 5.0 Merc., no problems with engine but I hear the Vp is smoother in shifting and general operation.

Looking forward to many seasons on the Doral as well as some good posting on iBoats!

Re: 95% There to becoming a Doral Owner

G'Day and welcome BoomerangII,

I have had a crack appear in the lower part of my arch (emanating from a hinge screw)when only a few months old.
It was repaired under warranty. The arch had to be removed which turned out to be a good thing as I was able to identify a couple of future wiring issues ahead of time and rectify them at no cost.
A great bargaining tool but not a huge cost to repair (for marine repairs anyway). And it will give you the chance to check the wiring in the arch.:)

Congrats man! Sure wish I had something with more room :( Love my boat but it's kind of crowded at times.

Cheers Rick.

YES! Survey went very well, "vessel in above average condition", well. Closing this coming Wednesday after a few punch list items. I'll post a few pics when I get her in the driveway. Then the fun really begins with a good going over...cleaning and polishing.

Chevyboy, I know what you mean. We traded in a Sea Ray 245 Weekender. No aft cabin....was never a good night sleep on that boat. We also love the fact that the 270 has a dinette. Makes the morning breakfast so much more enjoyable.

Well..what a freaking nightmare! Will save you the total BS I had to endure but this takes the cake. Salesman "detailed" the boat personally..using a scotchbrite pad and an abrasive deck brush! Needless to say, the entire gelcoat is now covered in various degrees of scratches. Not sure if BuffMagic is going to even touch it, may have to wet sand the entire 27' boat! And no, the stealership is not going to make good on their F-up. NICE.

ARE YOU KIDDING!!! OMG! I don't know what I would do there. There would definitely be a threat of legal action if they don't find someone to fix it. (in my case a threat is all I could do cause i'm broke :(...) You could always polish a few of his boats in the lot with some sand, maybe his car could use a sand bath too. Get a quote to have it fixed and bring it to him, tell him you will settle out of court and see what he says. Cant hurt to try. If you plan to do it yourself seek out a Napa or other body shop supplier and pick up a gallon of farecla G3 polishing compound and a variable speed buffer, It will bring back the shine (Used to do body before I started turning wrench's)

Link to their site.

What a bummer man:(

Good Luck with it. Rick.

Re: 95% There to becoming a Doral Owner

Hello Boomerang. New to the post. And brand new to boating. Other than my 12 foot Lund I grew up ford-fendering with. I am looking at the Monticello 2007 and live overseas. It looks to be a very good family boat for cruising on usually calm seas. Whats a fair price for very good to excellent condition and more importantly what are the survey punch list items I should not overlook. thanks in advance!

Fred

I have a 99 270, and just traded up to a 310Se

The 270 with the 5.7 is a great boat. I want on a trip, and boatmates with 250 rinkers and 5.0l engines were burning 25% MORE fuel. We loved this boat for handling and reliability. Can't help with your arch, mine was stainless.

Good luck

Re: 95% There to becoming a Doral Owner

weaver11,

A couple of Monticello's and a Prestancia were sold and moored near me from 2006-2008. The only issues that any of the owners had at that stage seemed to be Volvo drives, Clarion stereos and the shower sump switch and pump.
The other thing I would check is the vacuum set-up for the head (toilet) and the water pump. If either of these pumps run continously or cut in and out too often there is a leak somewhere.

Thank you very much. Now may I ask realistically about price. It has a merc 350with only 80 hours .I can get it for 58000 us. Is this good, bad, reasonable, excellent? As I said I am a newbie but want a safe boat for our family here in Qatar. Many thanks
