I have recently had a valve job done and head resurfacing after a blown head gasket.and following proceedure I checked everything according to my shop service manual incliding the timing procedure. I did jump out the distrbutor leads and the shift interpretor switch and set base timing @ 1degBTDC.But once I disconnected the jumpers the timing should advance to 10 to 14 deg,BTDC it doesnt but once I increase rpms to 2600 it advances to 12 deg, that is where it should advance to 25 to 29 deg, according to the Clymers shop manual procedure.I have advanced base timing to 12deg, BTDC to achieve the advance of 26 deg, BTDC @ 2600 rpm. I have not had a chance to run it @ this setting but I was hoping that there is a fellow boater or MERC tech online that could advise (I have changed all ignition parts and idle is @ 700rpm) :confused:Oh yea forgot to ad this has the Delco EST ignition

sounds like the wrong module is installed or the module is bad, I have seen a few.
if the module is ok it should jump to around 10* BTDC at idle and around 26*btdc at wot
if it does not you mosat likely have a bad module. i have seen a lot of bad/nonworking aftermarket modules.
buy the correct part from merc or at least keep checking it.
good luck and keep posting

My Napa dealer has access to marine parts and I am possitive the module is correct but I will have it tested. Will there be any future issues with my timing being so far advanced @ this setting.

rodbolt thanx for the reply. I took the module back to NAPA and tested it the test came up the same as the test did for the original ac module t4 ? replaeced it with correct delco module. Why would this t4 reoccur again any idea? coil? the shop manual test for the coil was good. Is Clymers a good shop manual?.
