I have recently had a valve job done and head resurfacing after a blown head gasket.and following proceedure I checked everything according to my shop service manual incliding the timing procedure. I did jump out the distrbutor leads and the shift interpretor switch and set base timing @ 1degBTDC.But once I disconnected the jumpers the timing should advance to 10 to 14 deg,BTDC it doesnt but once I increase rpms to 2600 it advances to 12 deg, that is where it should advance to 25 to 29 deg, according to the Clymers shop manual procedure.I have advanced base timing to 12deg, BTDC to achieve the advance of 26 deg, BTDC @ 2600 rpm. I have not had a chance to run it @ this setting but I was hoping that there is a fellow boater or MERC tech online that could advise (I have changed all ignition parts and idle is @ 700rpm)
Oh yea forgot to ad this has the Delco EST ignition
