Would like to put water pressure gauge on motor.
Where to tie in? (Hose to poppet valve?)
What should pressure be at idle and at good healthy cruise ( 4600 rpm )?
Thanks in advance
:)

When you buy the guage kit, it should have directions to help you install it on most all motors.. Has fittings, tubing, guage, etc....

Easy job.... I bought a good kit from Surplus Unlimited...Online.. And it had very good instructions, was even able to view them online prior to purchase...

Here is a link to applications/installations

http://www.tflx.com/obwpappl.html

Anytime.....

Let me know if you need a fitting to screw into the top of the block (that's what mine needed). If you do I can send you one for free (-shipping), they are not easy to find at most hardware stores....It's a brass reducer bushing 3/4" (actual) male pipe thread that goes into the block.....

But the kit will provide you everything else you need....

Klost, would you happen to have the link to Surplus Unlimited? Cost. I am assuming my 1989 200 2.4 Liter would be the same as your 1986 175.

JKW, Thank you for link. Which one of the pressure guage kits would you recommend?
Does not look like it would be difficult to do.

Gary: Don't know enough to recommend any particular one. All I am going to do is go with the recommended PSI and match the gauge face as close as I can to my other gauges. Brand name - probably Teleflex for myself. Are you WA or DC ?
Lived in Vancouver back in '79/'80. Loved it - Watched St. Helens that Sunday from about 5 miles and took pictures.

:)

gss,

I purchased the Blue Vector Water Pressure Kit for $38.95

Works great! You don't need power to it to run it, but it does have a light that will require power if you chose use it....

KC: The Blue Vector does look good. Hope they will go with my existing gauges. May have to change my temp gauge. Switched from OMC w/bolt on sensor to Merc with sensor in head - might be reading somewhat high. Going to shoot heads and block w/laser temp gun today while test running in canal to see if they match or what.

:)

JKW, I am in Bellingham, Washington,I'm right next to the Canadian border.
Went out today in the Islands for the last day of Salmon fishing until 1st of July unless I go to Canada, they never close. I'm glad I said fishing instead on CATCHING! Not even a bump all day.

Is the temp sensor measuring water or does it go through the water jacket and actually touch the block (metal). If it is touching metal, that could easily explain your higher readings, compared to the old sensor... remember that the top of the cylinder heads will have a water jacket and just under that is the combustion chamber where temps can reach 1000F+. So temps on the water jacket will be much less... The odds are that getting matching readings with the lazer will be difficult unless you can hit it in the same location, which is probably impossible.
I would expect that readings of 190-200F (WOT) would be normal if your sensor is measuring metal on the heads, under the water jacket... You're overheat sensor is probably set for 240F.
