Last fishing trip boat started up with an issues. When put is to reverse everything is fine but then put in to forward gear it seams to not want to catch all the way into gear or there is some kind or gear slippage. When throttled up outboard harshly jerks.

The shifter on these is not adjustable, so you have either a damaged clutch and/or gear, or (unlikely) a bent shift rod.

Thanks for help. What area do you suggest looking at first, and what sould i look at for indication of problem. Is it even worth gettin into or should i look for new motor.

Nothing real serious compared to a broken engine that cannot be easily repaired, not too expensive.

Drain LU and inspect fluid for fragments. If any debris is found, you have bad gears and/or clutch. Drop the LU and disassemble, and inspect the 3 gears and the clutch. Any damage/wear should be obvious. Remote possibility of a bad clutch spring as well. If the idea of pulling the LU apart is daunting to you, have your dealer look at it.
