They want $325 for an EGR valve? Can it be cleaned and reused? 119K great shape runs super but wont pass smog right now until fixed.

I just checked autozone has one for 137 bucks. Easy to replace yourself. Are you 100% sure replacing it will make the CEL go off?

Yeah i saw one for$172 online, shop says it's EGR, they ran codes. Hell I could put it in....just hopes it clears codes and passes smog. Also thinkin bout cleaning vac lines etc, havent looked that close yet.

Yes check all hoses first. After you install the egr valve the CEL may not go off untill you drive the car long enough for the main computer to cycle and then it will automaticaly turn off the light.Shops make ALOT OF MONEY fixin OBD11 problems.

shops dont really make alot of diagnostic time for ob11 its labor rate and install rate. If the codes pulled indicate egr then the valve is either stuck open or closed or just not functioning and toyotas like factory parts so try not to install aftermarket parts

Pull the old one and clean it first! It's stupid easy to do.

Just remove the EGR valve and get some electrical parts cleaner(IMPORTANT). You can use carb cleaner but if your egr valve is electronic do not spray the cleaner up into the coil. It will eat the insulator off the coil causing it to short. Electrical parts cleaner will remove the carbon, but won't eat the varathane off the coil should you get some up there.

You'll want to clean the area around the plunger, and ensure that the plunger can move freely up and down. You can physically push it with a awl or screw driver. You won't hurt it. Re install, hook up the recirculate line, and run it for codes again.

Piece of cake.
