The choke solenoid activates, but moptor wont start unless red enrichment lever is turned down. I can hear the solenoid click, but am not able to tell if any enrichment is happening..anyone know what I can check for the next step in gettin this motor to start? One started and running, it runs fine all day. Just cold start from key switch not working...

Re: '96 Evinrude E90 SL EDR Choke Problems

The primer solenoid is just a valve and does not create pressure on its own, but gets the pressure from squeezing the primer bulb or from the fuel pump if the ignition key is pushed in while cranking the engine.

In order for the primer solenoid valve to be operated electronically, the red handle must be aligned with and parallel to the cylindrical body of the primer solenoid.

If pressurized fuel does not pass through the valve when the key is pushed in, the valve can be replaced at little cost in time or money using a kit available from any BRP/Evinrude authorized dealer.

rick, pull the primer hose of a carb. then turn the motor over, activating the primer, see if you get gas thru the hose.
