I looked at the fuel pump and it looks good the fuel lines are fine the filter is new. Why is my engine stalling out at the lake everytime. The primer blub out lines run to the fuel pump should there be a male and female quick disconnect at the front of the engine like my old Merc?

Hello Fishmaster,

Just my 2 cents - but I do not believe that the quick disconects mean anything (unless you had some that were leaking or sucking air). I think the problem is either in the fuel pump or you have an air leak that allows the pump to suck air (which is easier to suck than liquid) and not leak fuel. Could be old cracked/checked fuel lines or gaskets. ;)

I have taken the fuel pump apart and installed a new diaphram kit, I noticed that two of the gaskets were in a different locations. The gaskets were the ones that are at the ends on the fuel pump on both sides then they meet up with the big flat rubber paper thingys. I wonder if this could have been the source of some small air leakage. So I am guessing it should seal a little better now, could this have come from the factory this way?

Just a couple of quesions. When does it die. At idle?, At high speed? or both?

Also, when you pump up the bulb before starting, does the bulb get firm? If so, does it stay firm if you leave it without the engine running?

Engine dies at idle and full throttle fuel starvation I am guessing. I changed the fuel pump diaphram today and now can not get the engine to run at all. I neglected to follow the directions when it asked to bend the plastic thingys where the check valves are. Instead I just smaked them with a golf tee and set them in place. Is it to tight now?  :D
