Hey everyone, my Force gave me a great summer once again...Hahaha...Anyway, towards the end the trim ram started to leak, not the electro/mech pump but the ram itself, anyway now it won't move either way, Is there a seal kit available for this unit?? Its a single ram 75 hp Force outboard 1996..

thanks

Re: 96 Force Hydraulic Ram leak????????

Usually rams leaks are not connected to failure to lift or lower. For the most part, ram leaks pollute the lake and let water into your trim system but your trim continues to work for a few more years. It can just cost a lot more to fix if water eats away at the insides.

At any rate -
Is your trim motor spinning? If the trim motor is not spinning then check your relay/solenoid, circuit breaker, and switch. If the motor is spinning then you need a new or rebuilt pump/manifold.

About ram leaks - if oil comes out then water goes in. Your style system has been known to split over winter if it gets a hard freeze. If you live in a cold place then it might be worth watching out for.

as regards rebuild kit ... mercury may still have them. If not then keep your eye on ebay. they pop up every now and then.

If motor spins but system does not move then you need to either buy a new pump, find somebody with experience doing the Mercs/Mariner/Force pump, or swap out system. There a few tricks inside of it that only experience can teach. I don't think the average marina or hydraulics shop would have good chance to fix on their first few tries.

The same system was used up to 2006. You might score a young and hardly used system on ebay for cheap. It happens sometimes.
