I'm trying to replace the tilt and trim on this unit but I can't get the lower rod out of the bottom of the unit. I was able to get the top rod out after a fair amount of persuasion but the bottom is being extremely difficult. I've tried soaking it with everything that I have and am destroying my tools trying to knock it out. Can I use heat on this thing? Getting very frustrated. Thanks for your help!

Some of them have a "keeper" on the outside of the pin. You did get that out right? I would think heat would be OK. Be careful not to catch the fuel on fire. I would heat the transom bracket, remove the heat and then spray with PB Blaster or some other good penetrating oil. Repeat that a few times, and get to whacking on it with a suitable drift, when the bracket is still hot.
