i have 115hp thats not coming out of the hole any more.i was running fine the other day and all of sudden it just died, wouldnt plane out.
i checked and nothing is happening on right side top cylinder.i called to check on head gasket and was informed that my particular model engine has o rings not a head gasket.
i am getting fire to the plug,i got tore up standing in the water from ears, duh!
any way i have put plug in wire, started the motor and placed plug near head and can hear and see it firing, not real clear if there is water in cylinder or not,its a little wet, doesnt really smell like gas though.this plug is not getting hot.
i changed location of plug and it fires in all other cylinders, tried swapping plug wires to see if problem moved to a different cylinder.you can hear the engine cut back and pick back up as you remove and replace other plug wires,if you take the bottm right one loose it almost wants to cut off,im thinking i have a blown o- ring, and no combustion is taking place in this cylinder. any suggestions,or comments would greatly be appreciated.

Certainly could be the o-ring. You could do a compression test and probably see low compression on that cylinder if it is.

c/6

Hooty

Re: 96 johnson 115hp blown o rings??

i called a buddy to get a compresion guage,i put 4 new plugs in and same thing.i couldnt wait i knew the problem was internal, removed head to find my worst nightmare,#1 cylinder had a hole in piston, looked like a burnt mushroom, wals all scuffed up,took it in for a full overhaul, man this aint cheap.any ideas on why this happened?
im thinking i wasnt getting any oil to this cylinder.i think im gonna have oil injection removed and start mixing my own fuel and oil.Any comments?
