I am swapping out my power head with a rebuilt, zero hour ph. I have a 60 degree v6 175 johnson & the ph that was sent has a different casting for the shift linkage on the block...It is physically different, the old ph had a straight rod from the shift linkage to the shift rod, the rod passed just under the carb bowl which was indented to allow straight shot. The new ph has a u shaped bracket that bypasses the carb bowl and then is joined to the linkage rod then extending over to the shift rod going down to the lu. The brass retainer on both ph are the same (the piece that hold the shift rod to the linkage arm...) However there is more distance to travel with the new ph than the old ph to connect the shift rod to the linkage, thus it will not go into forward gear...Question: Is there an updated connector (longer lobe") to compensate or do you have to replace the shift rod with one that has a 45 degree angle???

nc....usually, a replacement power head mimics the old one so this sort of thing does NOT happen. I would contact the supplier of the new power head and find out what the difference is. With out the year of the old and the new, it's hard to say what is needed.
