I bought this motor used this spring and need to replace the prop. Before I replace with appropriate prop for HP rating and boat, I thought I would ask the following question;
Considering this motor is simply a "de-tunned" 50-55hp merc ... is there an easy way to tune this motor back up to say 50 or 55hp?
Reed valves? carbs?
Any information would be helpfull.
I know that many outboards are tunned for the HP rating with reed valves and thought I could benefit by perhaps replacing these if thats all it was to increas the hp rating and perhaps gain a bit more speed.
Also... this motor was originally a tiller style with electric trim/tilt.... but since I installed it on my Smoker craft resorter (15' side console) I find that the trim is not strong enough to trim the motor while cruising. I noticed that this trim system is a single piston hydrolic whereas my previous boat which had a 90hp evinrude had a dual piston, one of which was shorter and used for the fine trimming of the motor while operating. wondering if this is what I need/shou;d have on this motor?
Any help/advice would be greatly apprecated.
