Is it possible to make the 1996 Mercury 2+2 4 cylinder engine to run on all carbs all the time instead of making them all kick in at 1800 rpm? I really hate this design but I picked one up really cheap so I thought "what the heck?" It suddenly dies at full throttle. I just want to change he 2+2 system because I hate the way the bottom end seems so sluggish. I would like to make it run like a normal engine if that is possible. Thanks for the help!!

Re: 96 Mercury 115 2+2 question

im not sure if its the top two or bottom two carbs that run all the time and correct me if im wrong but i believe the only way to make it run like a 4 cyl always is to swap the carbs that do not run all the time with another regular other set of carbs. it probably will idle a little rougher too and consume a bit more fuel. Merc did the whole 2+2 idea to smooth out the idle...

Well I can't handle any rougher idle. It already runs pretty rough as it is. And it like fuel alot as it is. I guess I'll just keep trying to get it running the right way as it is. Thanks!!
