I am considering purchase of a boat with this motor on it. I haven't done my own compression check yet and told seller deal was contingent on compression check. Seller told me recent compression check indicated all cylinders within a few pounds of 90 +/-. At 400 hours shouldn't this motor be around 110 to 115? We took it for a ride and it seemed to run fine. Cold start was easy and first try. Some missing detectable at around 1100 rpms. Low idle very smooth upper rpms very smooth. Good accelleration out of hole.

The OMC engines were designed with a lower compression setting, starting at some point in the early to mid 1990s. The ones that I used to work on, even with only a few hours logged on them had a reading of only 90 psi or so. Sounds about normal to me.

If the engine is a 60 degree V4/6, 90 psi is low.
