'96 omc 115 turbojet(v4 crossflow)
Ran great for about an hour and a half today.
I shut it down for about half hour when i tried to restart and nothing just cranks.
Turns out it has no spark
It will give one or two week sparks every once in a wile.
I have the manual on the way but if someone could give me some test procedures for the ignition parts.

I have disconnected the black and yellow wire that goes to cdi box no change
disconnected eng harness plug still no change

thanks in advance
John

You'll need a peak reading voltmeter or else an ohmmeter with a dva adapter to check this system out. Pretty hard to run any tests without this equipment. If you start throwing parts at it, try a power pack but I'd test first.

Ok thanks
Whats kinda throughing me for a loop is there were no sighns of a problem.
Went from running perfect (I shut it off) to no spark.

Re: '96 omc 115 sportjet no spark

It's unlikely that all 6 spark plug coils went at the same time. You've got 3 other expensive components, any of which can cause a "no spark" condition. The stator, timer base and the power pack. An original factory manual will be very helpful for troubleshooting this problem. You may also find some good tips on troubleshooting the ignition system at cdi.com-just look for the year of your engine. Keep in mind that the engine needs to turn over at least 200-250 rpm in order to fire that ignition system.

Re: '96 omc 115 sportjet no spark

The tach jumps wile cranking but fell to zero after it starts(when it did run)
Now it still jumps wile cranking

I have the manual on the way for the life of me dont know why I didnt order the day I bought this thing.

Re: '96 omc 115 sportjet no spark

I know the tach runs off of the stator on most or all two stroke eng.
The thought had crossed my mind that part of my stator had died or is that not posible as the tach didnt work wile it ran.

Re: '96 omc 115 sportjet no spark

The tach runs off of the charging part of the stator, the ignition has it's own coils in the stator that supply it with voltage. A simple resistance test with a multi-meter might pinpoint the problem. A DVA is nice and more precise, but an ohm meter can find problems as well. When the stator went out on my 60hp Johnson, it was easy to find with an ohm meter. You can check the resisance of the stator, the timer coils, and spark plug coils. If they all check out, I would suspect the powerpack. Truely, in my somewhat limited experience, most of the time when an engine is running fine when shut down, then won't restart and has no spark, the powerpack is the most likely culpret. This has accually been the case on 3 different occasions on motors I have worked on. I hate to replace anything without knowing for sure what the problem is.
Here is some good troubleshooting info: http://issuu.com/cdielectronics/doc...t.xml&backgroundColor=000000&showFlipBtn=true I think your info is on page 44-45.

Re: '96 omc 115 sportjet no spark

Finally got some time to run some tests
failed the omh test on the stator between the brown and brown/yellow
The timer base tests good
I am getting nothing out of the switch box
Am I correct in thinking that if the stator is dead the testing the leads from the switch box to the coils will show no voltage.

Yes, the stator is the only source of power to the ignition, so if it is dead, you will get noting from the switch box (I assume you are talking about the powerpack) BTW, in what way does the stator fail the resistance tests?

That would definately cause a no spark condition, before I replaced the stator, I would make sure the wiring isn't compromised between it and the plug where you tested it. I just hate to change parts unless I'm sure it is bad and can't be repaired.

I feal the same way.

As soon as I can get the darn flywheel off I will check it.

I have broken two pullers does anyone have any tricks.

I use a harmonic dampner puller, and have never had any trouble getting one off. Get grade 8 bolts if you don't already. I just put alot of pressure on the puller, then give the top of the puller a good smack with a hammer and they always have come loose for me.

Did you disconnect the leads to the voltage regulator / rectifier to see if it would fire. I just went through the same thing the engine would run when it was cold but as soon as it was hot it wouldn't start. Page 57 is where to start on the CDI guide.

http://issuu.com/cdielectronics/doc...t.xml&backgroundColor=000000&showFlipBtn=true

Yes i did remove the yellow wires for the regulator and test unfortunately nothing changed.

It took constant pressure from the puller and half a can of wd-40.
After 20min or so of setting like that it popped of(thank god was my last puller).

All of the wiring was in good shape
After testing between the brown and brown/yellow shows open with three different meters five sets of leads.

I believe a new stator is in my future as well as a voltage regulator as it shows signs of heat damage.
