'96 Suzuki DT115S Will not pee - Help!

My engine will not pee. I have just installed a used lower unit (see post below) on my 96 Suzuki DT115S w/EFI. The used unit appears to be off of a motor either without EFI or a DT140. It has a subwater intake tube. The tube is not present and the intake is blanked off on my original lower unit. Even with the tube present shouldn’t the water pump have enough suction to pick the water up? I get nothing. The pump impeller is new. I verified the upper water tube is open by blowing air through the engine block.

Last night I ordered a new blanking plate and solid rubber bushing for the sub tube and water inlet interface with the hope that this will help as well as a suspect lower unit to water tube bushing. Any other input or anyone with experience with this problem would be very helpful.

I managed to figure it out. I needed to have the entire lower unit submerged so enough water was availible to be picked up for the impeller. I guess I was not patent enough at the pond yesterday. I used a trash can. The water muffs just do not supply enough water which is strange because it worked before I changed lower units. I still plan to blank out the sub-water tub when my parts arive.

make sure that water comes out the exhaust ports aswell when driving ......

10-4. I did have some water coming out of the upper exhaust port when running "in the can".

then you should be fine, take it for a proper drive, to see if it pumps enough water, just watch the temp, you don't wanto fry your motor .... good luck
