I bought my first boat this weekend, a 1997 tidecraft wildfire 120 with a 97 suzuki 115 HP EFI motor. I took it out to the lake to get the feel of it and the first 20 minutes or so it ran flawlessly. I ran it up to around 4000 RPM and zoomed around the lake for a few minutes then I slowed it down to around 1000 RPM or so and was looking at some of the lakefront property. After I was done looking around I went ahead and gave it some more throttle and noticed it was not nearly as powerful as when I first arrived at the lake and was driving around at about 4000 RPM or so, when I had the throttle all the way open about as high as it would go would be 3000 or so, and when I first got to the lake I would guess that to hit 4000 RPM I had the throttle open probably around 1/2 of the way. Occasionally when I would have the throttle fully open it would kind of jump a little bit like it was going to speed up, but then it would stop. I think that the boat may have been sitting for a while before I bought it and on the way to the lake I put some more fuel in it, I would say that it had about 1/2 of a tank before I filled it the rest of the way up. Being this is my first boat other than a jon, maybe I am doing something dumb. I would like to try to tackle this myself before having to take it to the shop, but since this is my first outboard I really do not even know where to start. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance
