97 150 oceanrunner only reaching 2300 rpms

I Went on a sea trial for a used boat on saturday at local dealer. The boat has a 150 ocean runner.When we tried to get up on plain the motor would only get up to 2300 rpms.There mechanic seems to think its the high speed jets and is going ro rebuild the carbs.What do you guys think?

Look for another boat & motor that doesn't have problems right from the get go, IMO. Not getting past 2300 rpms sounds like its stuck in the S.L.O.W. function which could be caused by any # of things.

Could be either one or something else. Give the mechanic a chance at it.
