Can anyone tell me if they came from factory without Optical Ignition stators? Is it good to run without the Squirter installed in the fresh water flushout? Thanks in advance. Jim Daigle

Jim, I would thnk that motor should be the OIS ignition. It should say"OIS 2000" on the cover over the flywheel.

You may run the motor with the standard flusher over the water intakes on the lower unit, or with the gardenhose in the flushport that has the telltale outlet.

See I thought so as well though this motor has NO cover over it and when I requested the info the dealer said its not ois. Any sugestions I am not sure so it could be an older powerhead in a new case yes?

Jim, The OIS has a particular kind of plastic flywheel cover. Why not look up the '97 200 HP parts list in Crowleymarine.com and compare them.

97 200 has optical sensor to "trigger" the powerpack. Not having the telltale nozzle installed will reduce your cooling system water pressure. It will affect your cooling efficiency. If your motor remains in a safe operating temp range (less than 170 degrees or so), it will not be harmful but not recommended.

I did recently find out that the OIS only came on 175hp and lower and was not on the 200 and up though I last owned a 1996 150 ocean runner and it had the OIS so I just thought it was on all of thier product line AE..
Thanks again to all invested keep up the good work

Sorry, I had small block v6 on the mind. You are correct, 200hp uses a timer base p/n0584586.
