Hello and good morning, Im trying to help a buddy of mine with a 97' 225 v6carburated . There is no spark to any plug. I ohms ckd. the Crank Pos. Sensor (CPS)it is reading 1.4k ohms. From the readings im getting 3.2VDC from the trigger. With the key in the run position there is 12vdc to the ECU. It has the 830044ECU installed. I dont know what the valves of the CPS should be, so can't tell if is good or not. Im thinking the ECU might be bad, but with not knowing the logic of the ECU, its a expensive part to shotgun. Any suggestions would be great.

Carb'd or EFI, but not both.

No spark is an ignition problem, totally separated from the fuel system.

First test, disconnect the black wire w/yellow trace line from the main engine harness to the ignition modules, remove the plugs to save work on the starter and battery, rig ALL plug wires to a spark tester and retest for spark.

Remember that you need a MINIMUM 300 RPM for the system to generate enough voltage to function. A weak battery, poor connections, or short starter brushes can result in a NO spark condition.

If it still fails to spark then download the free Outboard Troubleshooting Guide from the link at CDIElectronics.com

Follow the detailed steps to test each component.

100% Dukedog!!!:D When you turn key on do you get the beep? Check all the grounds and connections due this a salty engine. Your CPS sensor should read 1100ohms +/- 200 with leads disconnected. Also disconnect the shift interrupt switch as a failed switch with bad diode will kill all cylinders(seen this once). It could be a stator but havent seen one bad(total failure) yet. The ECU can fail but it will still run as stator will take over control of modules.

We get no beeps, But I did find a (attempted splice) for the previous owner. It was the black and yellow wire on the eng shorted , It goes to the Kill SW. repaired splice they it should have been. The motor fired first try. Thanks for all the advice.:)

Ain't it amazing how skipping a 50 cent part can totally stop the whole durned machine?
