97 Evinrude 150 electrical questions

Does the engine have an external computer. The owner gave me what looks like a main engine harness but he claims that this needs to be installed. But from what i am looking at it already is. What is missing from my perspective is he starting harness. What exactly goes from the console to the engine? Battery cable, and some smaller wires? Maybe 5-10 of them? What i have now looks like it plugs into the ecu on top of the engine and have around 30-40 plugs on it.

You might give us a model number. I know that motor comes in a carb version. It probably comes in a FICHT version as well. There was a changeover to multiple plug engine harnesses around 1996-7.

My '98 Johnny 150HPV6 is carbs and has no sophisticated electronics on it except ign and charging. The battery cables run from the battery to the motor ground and the starter solenoid. There is a single boat harness with about three rectangular plugs on the engine side.

It is a ficht motor. I will work on that number. Where is it located?
