Took the boat out on Saturday and it ran great as usual. The only thing different is that I idled the entire time the last 2 trips I made. I still have the vro and the pump is only 2 years old. Could this just be unburned oil from idling so much?

If the oil has a"gassy" smell to it it's probably unburned gas/oil mixture and is normal.

Just went and sniffed a finger full of it. Smelled gas/oily to me. Not strong like LU fluid. Also my upper exhaust ports looked strange. One was kind of wet with a little exhaust sludge like normal and the other was bone dry.

Maybe it is fogging oil from winter lay-up?

I have a 98 Johnson 115 ELECM and it does the same thing as you describe when I run it on the muffs it never gets hot enough to burn off the oil like it does when you run it under power. Nothing to worry about other than the mess when it drips. Motor runs great and no problems if I don't flush it on the muffs after running it all day. Just residual unburned oil - like they say better to much than not enough.\Happy boating great motors. Starts in a flash-runs like an antelope and no smoke when under way.
