Hey, I'm pretty new to jetskiing. This is my second year. I have a 97 GSX, and a 94 Kaw 750. Both run great. On the GSX, recently, When you start it, occasionally you will get a 12volt low warning. It has always started fine, and still does. I know by testing it that my charging system is working. When I am getting the warning, if I hook the charger up to it the warning goes away. Am I looking at my battery starting to go bad??????? As I said, it has always cranked fine, Just not sure what to check. Also the VTS doesn't work. I have all the manuals and specs, I checked it all. The motor is good, the switches are good. Somebody told me to check the VTS module. How do you check the VTS module?????? What is the reputation for this model ski? I have heard that the motors in these are killer. Practically bullet-proof. I have 107 hours on this ski. And take pretty good care of it, Only in Salt water once, I don't beat it up or abuse it. Like I said, It runs great and is a blast to ride. Any help or opinions would be greatly appreciated. I am a great backyard mechanic. I have an old Harly, an old Buick, an old CZ, 2 boats, and 2 jet skis. If I knew what was wrong, I could fix it. Just need help figuring what is wrong. Don't know my way around skis that good yet. Thanks

Re: 97 GSX, Couple Questions

the battery is probably getting old they last about 2 years usually,, do a load test by getting a reading while you are starting the engine and see if it drops below 11 volts,, or it may just need water in it.. as for the vts the black box in the back has relay switches, it could have bad relays or a blown fuse or just a bad ground wire, or there is water in the electric motor that happens quite often, one thing you should do is remove the ground wire by the starter clean the area and the cable end and re attach it. they get wet and make a bad connection due to corrosion
