I am replacing my lower unit on a 1997 Johnson 175 HP. I am looking for opinions on rebuilt OMC LU's versus an aftermarket LU from an outfit such as SEI. I have heard pretty good things in other threads in this forum related to SEI products.
I would prefer an OMC LU, but I am concerned that I am replacing one old LU with another. My primary concern with any product is reliability. The mechanic said that he can replace the LU for around $16-1800 with a used OMC LU. My concern is theOMC LU for this engine was available from '91 - 2000, i think. SO best case scenario, I am replacing my busted LU, with another that is 13 years old.
I have read a few other threads related to the SEI SE306 and the only complaints, valid or not, were the components and gear boxes were built to an inferior standard and that they didnt hold paint very well. Personally, i dont care if it is pink as long as it will perform. All opinions welcome:facepalm:
