I have a 97 Johnson OR 175. Have been having fuel problems and the engine alarm going off at 3000 RPMs and a soft primer bulb. After posting a few responses, I replaced the fuel lines from tank to primer bulb. Same size lines, A1 3/8? line. Replaced the fuel/water separator and all fittings between tank and primer bulb. Also, drained fuel tank through transom to tanks on the ground and cleaned, removed all fuel, sludge, water and little debris from tank by opening tank at sending unit/ fuel pick up. (about 1/2 gal of water/gunk)
Also, took air box off, removed all carburetor drain plugs at the high-speed orifice but the port bottom one to drain out remaining ?stale? fuel and sprayed out carbs and orifice where drain plug was with carb/choke cleaner.
Re-assembled. Added fresh gas and Star Tron, and started the engine right up on muffs. First time since I have owned the boat that it would start at the turn of the switch and idle without stalling. Put out in the water and at FULL Throttle as we left the dock, the boat would not idle over 2500-3000 rpms. No alarms. Concerned that I may have a kink in the new fuel lines or screwed up something at the carburetors. Any ideas??
