9.9 HP 4-stroke drips gas as soon as I hook-up gas line. My Mechanic has carb and can't find Mercury #827493m re-build kit for SN#OH012430 on invoice (not from the motor itself). Merc no longer carries re-build carb kit and ethanol has eaten up my seals. I always treat the gas and stay away from ethanol pumps religiously. This motor was not built by Mercury and am not sure who really built it. I am 90% sure it is the smaller of the two CC's offered. Any help is greatly appreciated, it's May and I need my kicker.........

What is your engine s/n?

Here is a picture of what is in the carb kit and you will see that there is nothing in there that can be eaten by ethanol.

You say that it drips as soon as you hook up the gas line. Where is it dripping from?

Gerry

SN# OH012430 is dripping from lowest point of carb in middle as installed on motor. Mechanic showed me all rubber seals-gaskets detiorated - the biggest about the size of a quarter - solid like a baffle or the seal for bottom of carb where the throttle arm is centered - sorry not to savvy on terminology. All I know is Merc no longer carries part. Re-build kit - maybe we have wrong part number???

Re: '97 Mariner 9.9 HP 4-stroke carb kit

I have the same O/B motor. I got a carb. kit from my brother when I bought back the boat. I started up the boat and it would flood and die. Item #40 was split and looked like a o-ring and rubber disc (It is one piece). I rebuilt the carb. but it did not run well afterwards. I started it up this weekend praying it would run better. It ran smoothly for over 15 minutes until I shut it down. It started up fine each time afterwards. I think the fresh gas may have opened up some of the passages also the wet plugs and cylinders may have dryed out.

Item #40, (Mercury, Mercruiser, Force, etc. - CARBURETOR - 9.9 /8(BONDENSEE) 4 STROKE) was a very crude part with a brass button in the center. The package says:
"Quicksilver P/N 827478M Diaphragm
Prod of Japan 04/30/08
barcode: 7 45061 35854 6"

I believe that Yamaha may have supplied parts for this engine. The carb. has these markings: "Teikei 5FK 6G905"
A good Yamaha parts/mechanic may recognize this part or you may find it under Yamaha parts listing. Let me know what you find?

Bridgeview Marine in Delta BC (Vancouver ) at 604-946-8566 cross referenced a Yamaha part number 6G8143680200 that will fit the 1996 Merc 9.9 four stroke I have. It's a pricey little bugger at $49.34 CND but that's the only option out there right now since Merc discontinued it. I didn't buy it from Bridgeview since the Yamaha dealer in Yukon where I live had the part on had so if you're stuck and can give these guys the business, it's get me some good karma back. Hope this helps. It took me about three hours of google searching to find the answer out so I thought I'd better share the knowledge.

Cheers
