I bought a 97 sea ray that had a crack in the block so the dealer installed a reman. The original motor is a LX EFI 5.7l but the reman is a vortec block. The dealer supposedly broke the cam in. I had a chance to take it for a spin today and i took it easy since im breaking it in. A few things i noticed is the temp guage was at 180-190, oil pressure was strong, and it seemed to run smooth. Drove it around for a little over an hour and never went above 4000 rpm. Then pop and nothing. The motor just died and when i tried to restart it just backfired. Checked oil and its clean and up to par. Plenty of fuel in the boat. So I limped back to the dock and just put it back on the trailer. What could be the problem? EFI maybe acting up? Or ignition? Would the tpi for the old motor maybe not work with the vortec? Thanks.
