97 Mercruiser 5.7 Starting issues....

Starts after 4-5 seconds of crank time, sometimes less, sometimes more... used to surge but hasn't in a while.... doesn't really stall, once in a while maybe... But after shutting off, seems when hot, she does not start until we wait for a few minutes... Thinking ign module or distributer... anyone know what one to replace it with ? does it have to be merc ?? or could it be something else I can try ???

if it helps the # on the ign coil is 399-6E10

Ayuh,...... Have you considered just a plain ole Complete Tune Up,+ Service,..??

Carbed, or Injected,..??

Btw,... What's the Problem,..?? If it ain't starting, What is it doing,..??

did plugs, coil, wires, filter, oil, water sep, this past winter.... the dist is completely rusted and rotted.... I am putting another in right now... do you know what the timing should be set at?? it is TBI

Try the ignition sensor Assy and new rotor, just went through this with my engine.
