Hi! Sold my good ol merc bravo and got a 1997 31ft Larson with twin 5.7efi/volvo duoprops.Runs great, problem is it is a BEAST to get out of gear!Acts like an alpha with the shift interrupt disconneced. The cables were replaced by the last owner in an attempt to fix this. With the engines off it shifts fine. Both sides are the same.Idles hot at 650rpms,drives are filled with merc.high perf gear oil.I don,t know the drive # but will try to find out.Leaning toward gear oil type/viscosity.The recommended Volvo oil is 75/90 syn. i believe. (Been readin about new and improved cone clutch update, hope knott!)Any suggestions and MUCH thanks! I/O WALDO

The gear lube is NOT the problem.
My guess is you probably have very long cables, and possibly some tight bends in the shift cables. If you have dual stations, it even further compounds the problem.

The shift interrupt may not be interrupting at the right time

Re: 97 volvo dp hard shift

I have kinda the same issue with my 2002 Volvo 5.0 GL/SX-M. It shifts fine at Idle, and after mid throttle(<=3500 rpm) runs. No problem at all with the motor off, but after a high speed run(4000-4500 rpms) or an extended time of pulling a tube or skier and it's tuff to get it out of gear. Running slow at idle for a time helps. Haven't figured out why after 4 yrs.
