If there was no discharge at operating temps, the t stats may be stuck closed. When were they last replaced?

I would drop the lower unit then and change the water pump as well as the t stats. Cheap parts but their failure is catastrophic. When the lu is down, remove 1 tstat (thermostat) at a time and flush the water line with compressed air or the garden hose from the water line to the t stat housing, then backflush from the housing to the water line. Replace it with a new one, then repeat for the other. Clean out the water intake area. This will complete your cooling system and give you peace of mind.
