Im checking all my wiring connections due to a blown cylinder. Could someone help with a couple of wires? I purchased the boat used and after looking under the console, i see some odd splices.
In relation to the 8 pin conector to the tach,(OMC concept with 4 lights), someone teed off the main harness for two different components that are no longer there:

the first is a three wire of black-grey-purple
second is black-purple-wht/brn
also the wht/brn isnt in the 8 pin connector

One more question about my tach: When I attach 12v to the 1&2 pins on the tach,(Purple and Black), all four lights come on momentarily as with starting the motor. Is there a way to duplicate a signal being sent each different warning light? I am testing it diconnected from the harness.
Thanks to anyone with help.

Blk= 12vdc negative
purple= 12vdc assy switched at key
Grey= Tach sender
White/Brn= Trim guage

Plug the harness back in. turn on key switch. All lite should come on and go off. On engine remove tan temp sensor wire and touch engine side to block. You should see the HOT lamp and hear horn. Inside boat take a needle and short the to wire together on the oil tank. Should see lite. Forgive me I forget the other 2 lites. Hope this helps

Don't apply 12 volts or any voltage to the tach wires with the harness connected, you will cook your rectifier and maybe the whole ignition system will be damaged.

Thanks guys.
I was testing the tach in my garage with a 12 volt regulator. I guess the previous owner had a trim/tilt guage installed.
The lights on the tach are chk eng; low oil; no oil; hot.
