Hey guys, I'm still scratching my head on this ignition prob I am having. I was wondering which terminal on the key swich would be the hot wire/wires an how much voltage should be there. When I turn my key on nothing happens no gauge readings or ignition from the motor. It's acting like I have no power at all to the key switch. When I jump the motor at the selinoid it turns over. Everything was workn fine last weekend. Oh I also cleaned every connection an terminal I could find under the console an reconnected as it was before. This is in a 190ccf wellcraft. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If I remember correctly the purple wire is the battery wire that should have battery voltage (12+) on it.

Thanks for the replys. Where exactly would this fuse be?? I have looked at the fuse near the starter/Selinoid an it is still good. Would there be any others for ignition??

I checked the voltage from the "b" wire an have right at 12v. I have power but still nothing happens. Any suggestions?? Where do I go from here?? It is also a new key switch.

Put the voltneter on the S post and turn to start. See if you have 12 volts; if so, check your neutral safety switch.

I have 8.5v with the key in the off position an it drops to 0v in the start position.

I had checked that yesterday when I was tryn to figure this out. It was all clean an tight. I just had my motor serviced about a month ago. I had them go through the engine an check everything.

The S post should have voltage only when the ignition key is in the start position.

When I just checked it again, it was the opposite. When the key is in the off position i am measuring 8.5v an when I turn it to start the voltage drops to zero. This is checking form the "B" post to the "S" post.

Put your meter negative contact on the ground (solid black "M" post) and your positive contact on the "S" post, then turn the key to start.

Bad ignition switch if you have voltage at the B post and nothing at the S post when the switch is turned to Start. The circle diagrams show how voltage goes from "B" to the other posts when the key is moved.

Re: 98 130 evinrude ignition voltage

Ok thanks for your help, but Im kinda wondering if it couldnt be something else because I just put that new switch in yesterday because of this ongoing problem, I replaced my old one. Once I installed the new one, Nothing would work so I tried to put the old one back inline and still nothing. so I reinstalled the brand new switch an thats where Im at right now. Ill Try and recheck it again. because like I said the switch is a day old. Like I said, I really appreciate the the help. Thanks. E.Moss. Ill post my recheck findings.

Oh, also, like ya'll had stated eariler, I should have 12v at the switch. When I check the "hot" wire to a ground source(bus bar), Ill get 11.5-11.9v. To get to that voltage, I have to hold my meeter leads on the conection for about 30 seconds or more and the voltage on the meter slowly climbs from 8v-9v up to the 11.5-11.9v. What would make the voltage reading climb up slow like that????? I've never seen that happen before. My battery is 3 weeks old and fully charged. Could this be a corroded connection somewhere???????

I rechecked the ground post to the s post an turned the key an only got .4v on the meter. Battery ground is clean an tight. Positive is also. :(

Check the color coding on the diagram against your wires; they have to match.

If for some reason you are using a pre-1996 switch, use the diagram found here: http://www.maxrules.com/graphics/omc_pics/REMCONTBOX.jpg
