'98 3.0L Confusion about drive oil

I need to top off the reservoir. I did look in manual #14, but there are two sections, one of which mentions just gear oil, and another which specifically mentions the Quiksilver High-performance Gear Lube. Now I am confused about which one to use. The latter not clearly says not to mix them, but how can I tell what is already in there. - Thanks

Blue/green color = Hi Performance.

Color of oil = regular gear lube.

First of all, I don't have a clue what you have in there now.

If you drain it out, use Hi Performance. You can't get much better.

Sorry if I am being obtuse guys, but I still have a little confusion about this I could use a review:

I originally bought the Premium Gear Lube thinking I didn't need the Hi-Performance. When I got it home and looked what was in the reservoir, it looked green, so I went back to Wal-Mart and exchanged for the Hi-Performance. I got that home, and noticed it has a REALLY blue color. So, what I have is green in the reservoir and blue in the bottle, and I'm puzzled about whether I should put the blue in over the green. I guess my worry is that there is a mixture in there already. Maybe I should run the rest of the season at a hair over the "add" line, and change out all of it in the fall. Any thoughts?

The color does change in the Merc Hi Performance. From green to a bluish green, but it is the same thing. The Premium is usually used in NEW drives and lower units for breakin oil. But Merc does recommend the Hi Performance gear lube after the first change.

Many thanks! I'll pour some blue in, then change it all out in the Fall and be certain of what I have.
