Greetings Fellow Enthusiasts,

I have a 1998 40HP Tracker Force 2-stroke on my pontoon boat. I was looking for some feedback from the gurus about potential harm from prolonged cruising (2-3 hours) at no wake speed. For example: Is cruising at 1400 RPM more harmful to my motor than cruising at 2K? Or, doesn't it make any difference? I always assumed that it was best to keep the Rs up as high as possible. 90% of my cruising is at No Wake Speed and I want to minimize any potential damage from going too slow. Any help would be appreciated... Thanks!

Re: '98 40HP Minimum Cruising RPMs?

I don’t have any experience with running a motor at those revs but I would suggest checking the condition of the plugs at different speeds to see if they are carboning up. Perhaps try different brands or quality of oil to see if this makes a difference. Synthetic oils manufactures claim they run cleaner.

I was given some advice when I first came to this forum. I can’t remember whether it was Frank or Jerry but they said to “Drive it like you stole it”. So when you are not in the no wake zone open it up a bit to give it a good clean out.

Thanks for the advice. Already run synth oil... Plugs are fine. Yes, when I do have the chance I like to open it up!
Thanks again
