98 90hp johnson spl water pump help

Hey i am trying to replace the impeller on my 1998 90hp johnson SPL. I am having truble geting the lower unit off, I can not figure out how to disconect the shifter. Seems like it does not slide off, some how there has to be a way to disconect it. i'm scared to just pry and pull on it. any clues or maybe somebody has a pdf of the factory service manuel?

there is a link disconnect under the carb.

i was woundering if that was it but i figured you would have to do it much lower, thanks for the help tashasdaddy.
